Massacres on Independence Square and the threat of troops entering the capital forced the people of Kiev to prepare for a real siege, and even the most sensible citizens rushed to the shops.
According to sellers, in one day most grocery stores sold a two-week, and some even a month's supply of food.
The average buyer left at least 400-500 hryvnia at the checkout, and some bought up for 2-3 thousand hryvnia. Moreover, in addition to strategic reserves of cereals, butter, flour, sugar, buyers scattered everything that came to their hands. For example, in a matter of hours, Kiev residents bought 100 tons of bread, which were specially ordered additionally from Kievkhleb due to growing demand.
At the same time, the publication notes that such record fees are fraught for merchants with a protracted decline in demand: Kiev residents, who have stocked up on food for more than one month in advance, will now visit stores much less often.
