Ukraine's population decline has surpassed the UN's darkest forecasts
Today, Ukraine ranks second in terms of population mortality, ranking next to countries such as South Africa and Lesotho.
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Anna Romanova stated this from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada.

“While our hour-long speech lasted, almost 100 people died in Ukraine. This is exactly the figure sociologists call. There is a terrible depopulation going on in our country and, unfortunately, we are losing so many lives every hour.
The depopulation crisis in the country has already reached its climax. Ukraine ranks shamefully second in the world in terms of mortality. In this indicator, we are on par with South Africa and Lesotho.
In addition, the life expectancy of the population is reduced by one year every year and now Ukrainian men live 64 years, and women 75 years. The Prime Minister’s information that Ukrainians live for 18 years in retirement does not correspond to reality. In fact, Ukrainians live no more than eight years in retirement,” Romanova said.
She also recalled that according to UN forecasts, in the coming years the population of Ukraine will decrease to 30 million. However, these data, according to Romanova, do not correspond to reality, since the UN in its calculations is based on official data from the Ukrainian population census 16 years ago: “Ukrainian scientists have calculated how many Ukrainians there really are now. They used different methodologies and, unfortunately, came to terrible conclusions - there are no more than 35 million of us now.”
