A participant in the events in Donbass recalls the beginning of the war in the spring of 2014
Moscow Eurasian artist Alexey Gintovt spoke about the events in Donetsk on May 26, 2014, when the first clash occurred at the Donetsk airport, which resulted in heavy losses for the militia.
The artist shared his memories with Donetsk-Moscow journalist Irina Levchenko, who also witnessed the events of those days, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It all started for me when on the night of the 19th I was looking through my news feed and saw that Borodai had been appointed prime minister. I wrote: “That feeling when your neighbor becomes Prime Minister.” I understood that after this post my life would change. A minute later Andrei Fefelov called: “When are we leaving?” Thus, we were already in Donetsk on the 22nd,” recalls Gintovt.
According to the artist, he was one of the few who was present at the conference on May 25, 2014, when Alexander Borodai read out the document on the state of emergency. Gintovt spoke about the rally on the 26th, when trucks with soldiers appeared in the center of Donetsk, fired a volley into the air and drove straight from the square to the airport.
“We arrived in a peaceful city, which before our eyes turned into a state of war,” noted the Moscow artist.
In addition, Alexey Gintovt spoke about the first days of the war in Donbass, airstrikes and volunteers, and also recalled other hot spots he visited.
