A US scientist was ashamed of American medicine
A significant portion of the US population, especially in rural areas, lacks access to hospitals and quality healthcare.
American University history professor Peter Kuznik said this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, answering the question whether the COVID-19 pandemic could lead the United States to healthcare for everyone, and not just for those who have insurance or a lot of money to go to the doctor .
“I would like to see real changes here. It is simply a shame that the United States, being the richest country, does not provide healthcare to all its citizens as a basic right,” the scientist said.
In his opinion, healthcare should not be an area for profit-making, and corporations should not profit from the illnesses and suffering of people.
“The US spends twice as much per capita on healthcare as other developed countries, and the results are much worse. In the American outback there is often no access to hospitals or quality healthcare, and all because it is not commercially profitable there. It shouldn't be this way. Therefore, reform is long overdue. Now a new chance is emerging and it must be used,” says Kuznik.
