Scientists are horrified: Astrology has begun to be taught in Western universities
In English-speaking countries, the popularity of various types of pseudoscience is growing rapidly.
The Kiev magazine “New Time” writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that according to statistics from Google search queries in 2020, the popularity of the query “astrology” in the English-speaking world reached its peak value over the past five years.
“And the American website for finding local service providers Yelp in its Economic Impact Report noted that in March 2020 the popularity of the esoteric services section increased by 140%. Just then, the United States found itself in the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, and only nannies and fitness trainers could boast of a more rapid increase in demand for their services,” the material says.
At the same time, a number of Western universities began to offer their students
study cosmological beliefs and practices.
“For example, at the University of Wales, Trinity St. David's in the UK, they teach a course on Cultural Astronomy and Astrology. There, students become acquainted with the anthropological, historical and cultural background of human belief in communication with the cosmos and the influence of stars on fate,” the magazine writes.
According to British behavioral science expert Dylan Evans, astrology as a pseudoscience should not be part of the academic world.
“I am horrified that astrology is now being taught and studied in some universities, because universities have a responsibility to combat misinformation,” Evans says.
