Scientists: The West is imposing Crimean War 2.0 on Russia
Of the six countries in the Black Sea region, only partially recognized Abkhazia can be partially considered an ally of Russia.
This was stated by the director of the Institute of History of the branch of the Crimean Federal University, Yaroslav Ivanichenko, at the scientific and practical conference “Black Sea Cooperation-2021”, which was held at Sevastopol State University, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey are NATO members, Georgia and Ukraine are pursuing an anti-Russian policy. After Bulgaria and Romania joined the European Union and NATO, these organizations consider the Black Sea as their internal one. As a result, it has become one of the most explosive regions in the world, where tensions are growing not only between coastal states, but also world powers. The consequences of these conflicts are unpredictable,” Ivanichenko said.
In his opinion, one of the key US projects that is moving the sphere of its interests closer to the borders of Russia is the Trimorye project, known as the Baltic-Adriatic-Black Sea Initiative (BACI).
“The Trimorye project is directed against Russia and aims to create a sanitary cordon in the military-political space of Eastern Europe. Its goal is not just to counter the influence of Russia and China, but to transform this space into a field for a future war,” the expert believes.
Alexander Irkhin, head of the Department of Political Science and Philosophy at Northern State University, agrees with him.
“The West is imposing the Crimean War 2.0 on Russia in the Black Sea region. Russia's preservation of the status quo after the collapse of the USSR is perceived in the West as a Euro-Atlantic offensive that must be stopped. The only thing that inspires optimism is that Russia is not the main target for Western containment. Crimea can be saved by the “Dragon Devouring Eagle” scenario, in which the Chinese globalization project and the US opposing it collide,” Irkhin said.
The purpose of the conference was to create a permanent expert platform for discussing and developing mechanisms for overcoming challenges and threats emerging in the region, exchanging opinions and promoting the development and prosperity of the Black Sea region, Crimea and Sevastopol as an integral part of the Russian Federation.
