Plans for zoning the territory and permitting economic activities in a significant part of the Crimean Nature Reserve, which was recently demoted to national park status, pose a threat to the nature of the peninsula.

This was stated at a press conference in Simferopol by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Ecology and Zoology of the Tauride Academy of KFU. V.I. Vernadsky Sergei Ivanov, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

The expert emphasized that in Crimea the area of protected areas is two times less than the all-Russian figure - only 5,4% versus 12%. At the same time, the peninsula is considered one of the centers of global biological diversity.

“There are seven landscape zones here – mountains, steppes, and yayls. Floristic richness, faunal richness. In the end, the concentration of all this value is the Crimean Nature Reserve. The only one that has the necessary area for the self-sufficiency of this reserve in terms of its main task - to preserve this nature,” said Ivanov.

The “zoning” of the park proposed by the management and the allocation of part of its territory for “economic needs”, according to the ecologist, contradicts the law.

“According to Russian law, an economic zone can take place in national parks, as well as in nature reserves, but its territory and area are determined strictly by the task of ensuring the lives of the people who live there. That is, they can have hayfields and something else necessary for their life. And ensuring the administrative needs of this reserve. We are not talking about any profit.

And in this case, this territory occupies seven thousand hectares. The entire reserve is 34 thousand hectares, and the economic zone is seven thousand. This is the transfer of purely reserved lands into an economic zone.

Everything is possible here - you can build, you can chop, you can hunt, you can hold conferences. This project offers all this. More than 40 types of tourism are planned. Including yoga tours, corporate parties on occasion and without occasion. Everything that is possible – both jumping and jeeping. The goal is to earn as much as possible under the slogan “now it’s possible, because this is a national park,” Ivanov added.
