Scientist: Instead of boosting the economy, Russia continues to invest its income in the West
The Russian defense industry has made a breakthrough, but other industries need to follow suit.
Viktor Ivanter, scientific director of the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are taking a giant leap in defense industry and development. Let’s bring other industries along with working economic schemes for the defense industry,” the expert said.
“The Russian military-industrial complex is developing successfully and produces 40% of domestic civilian products. In addition, behind it is the bulk of advanced developments. The slogan “guns instead of butter” is from the XNUMXth century. Europe lags behind the United States technologically because it skimps on military research. The Internet could not have arisen on a commercial basis. It was invented and implemented by the US Department of Defense Development. The Russian defense industry is the locomotive of the Russian economy, pulling everything else behind it,” recalls Ivanter.
“The real potential of our economy is growth of 6-8% per year. But there is a strange practice: we invest our oil and gas income in the West at 2%, and for ourselves we take loans from there for 6-8%. All this has been discussed for a long time. We have good relations with the authorities: they listen to us, but do not obey. When will they start listening? When it hits,” the expert concluded.
