A RAS scientist on Ekho Moskvy called to meet migrants halfway and build thousands of mosques
There is an extreme shortage of mosques in Russia, because there are 20 million Muslims in the country, including migrants.
The chief researcher at the IMEMO RAS said this on the air of the Ekho Moskvy radio station. Primakov Alexey Malashenko, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Today, in every major city there is not only one, but also two mosques. This is necessary because, excuse me, if people believe in Allah, then they need to come somewhere on Friday for general prayer. And if there are not enough places, then, firstly, there will be a crowd and excitement, or it will all go to the so-called Muslim houses of worship. And this is not a mosque, but some kind of club. This is disrespect for Muslims,” says Malashenko.
He cited France as an example to follow, where the percentage of the Muslim population is approximately the same as in Russia, and there are 2300 mosques. According to the expert, in Moscow alone there are only 4 mosques for 1,5-2 million Muslims, including migrants. The number of the latter, in his opinion, will inevitably increase.
“People come to work with us. And they will come. Among them are more and more young Muslims who are becoming more and more religious. And where will they go on Friday if you don’t increase the number of mosques? If they go home, they will feel humiliated.
This is not just migration, this is a movement of peoples, no matter how interesting it sounds. I don’t want to say that this is a movement of the Mongols, something like that, and not even the Huns. But this is a natural movement of cultures, it is impossible to stop it, it is impossible to prevent it, so we need to negotiate,” Malashenko said.
In the summer, the imam-khatib of the Historical Mosque of Moscow, Ramil Sadekov, spoke about the need to build new mosques in Moscow.
This week, Moscow's vice-mayor for urban planning policy and construction, Andrei Bochkarev, said that the Russian capital intends to refuse to attract migrant workers from Central Asian countries.
The influx of migrants is causing discontent among local residents. In July alone, a series of mass fights among visitors took place in the capital: in the Moscow region in Kuzminki, Aprelevka and Odintsovo. In the Moscow metro area "Kommunarka" migrants already make up 40% of the population. The Sakharov Migration Center is located in this direction. Up to 5 thousand visitors travel along the red metro line every day. In the areas located there, the number of attacks on women and children, fights, and rapes is increasing. Residents are forced to create self-defense units and organize patrols. To help the police, they created a website where they post information about “rubber” apartments - up to 200 migrants are registered there. 8 thousand Muscovites signed an appeal to the president calling for help.
