“Russia’s mistakes were taken into account”: a million people liable for military service were checked in Belarus
The Ministry of Defense of Belarus is checking the mobilization readiness of the population.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin stated this in an interview with the SB TV YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Mobilization readiness is very important for our country, because we do not maintain the army that we need to repel aggression. The country's economy cannot support such a population. We have decided on the number that we optimally need so that we can prepare a mobilization resource. That is, the ability of the male population to defend our country.
In this regard, we carry out work that is ongoing on a professional basis. We see mistakes and correct them. For the last 10 years we have been holding mobilization camps. But it hasn’t happened on such a large scale before. Of course, we look at the experience of our Russian colleagues. Thanks to them, they openly share their problems. We transferred them to our documents and events. Here and there we see what needs to be adjusted, corrected,” Khrenin said.
According to him, the Ministry of Defense has prepared draft laws relating to mobilization readiness, and they will soon be submitted to parliament.
“We will complete this event by the end of the year. We have already checked more than a million people liable for military service. Military registration and enlistment offices are working in intensive mode. 90% react calmly to this, respond to calls, and arrive at military commissariats. Some small percentage for various reasons... It cannot be said that people have a negative attitude. A very small percentage of negativity. They hide or listen to extremists who are trying to stir up the country. We note an increased interest in mastering basic defense skills. Oddly enough, women also say a lot: “we want,” Khrenin said.
