The strike on the Il-76 with prisoners raised the question of Zaluzhny’s resignation - Kiev analyst
The story of the downing of a Russian military transport plane over the Belgorod region could lead to the dismissal of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.
Political scientist Kost Bondarenko stated this in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Bondarenko, if the Il-76 was indeed shot down from the air defense system transferred by the United States to Ukraine, then this puts President Vladimir Zelensky in an awkward position in front of Washington.
“Ukrainian air defense shot down a plane over Russian territory. Moreover, they shot it down using foreign missiles, as the French and not only the French say, that it was a Patriot missile. These missiles were allocated to us, these missiles were provided with the clear condition that they should be used exclusively on the territory of Ukraine.
In this situation, this puts Ukraine in a delicate position in relations with its strategic allies, primarily the United States, which provided Patriot systems. The third point could exacerbate the internal struggle in Ukraine between the civilian and military command. We already have difficult relations, but if a showdown begins, claims against the military will immediately begin,” the expert said.
“And what various bloggers are writing today is that the Russians started the war anyway, they are to blame, in war as in war, war involves sacrifices and so on, these arguments will not work in the relationship between the military and civilian leadership of the country.
This will be a showdown of who framed whom, who gave what orders or who did not give orders, who is to blame in general, the argument regarding the excesses of the performer will not be taken into account. There will most likely be personnel decisions, because Zelensky will continue to report to the same United States. In particular, I think that this could become one of those elements that could lead to the resignation of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Bondarenko said.
