“The blow to Ukraine could be terrifying”
The current situation in Ukraine is the biggest current security challenge in the world. Political scientist Sergei Karaganov stated this on the Russian TV channel TVC.
“The situation in Ukraine is dangerous. This is the biggest challenge to security, an attempt to shake up the situation. But I think it is controlled. I believe that our authorities are sending a message about what will happen to their partner if they allow such things to happen. I don’t even want to think what will happen to the Ukrainian partners. The impact can be absolutely terrifying,” Karaganov said.
One of these signals, he believes, came fromfishing of Russian President Vladimir Putin that a possible attack by the Ukrainian army on the Donbass republics threatens Ukraine with the loss of statehood.
“We will act extremely harshly if they try to use Ukrainians as cannon fodder. Putin said: it will be bad for you if you go for a provocation,” the expert emphasized.
