Reverse gas supplies from Poland to Ukraine declined consistently in the second half of 2014. Thus, in November, according to the operator of the Polish gas transmission system, Gaz-System SA, Ukraine reduced natural gas imports by 23,6% - to 59 million cubic meters, compared to October.
Against the backdrop of Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s “shaky” statements about refusing to import Russian gas, Poland’s demarche looks defiant. Sources at Naftogaz report that the suspension of the reverse may be due to late payment and the shortage of funds that Kyiv is experiencing. Despite the fact that the Poles were called “Ukraine’s best friends” in the European Union, they are not ready for charity when supplying energy resources.
