The situation in the Ukrainian energy sector is still far from critical. The metro in major cities of the country continues to operate, as do the electric locomotives that deliver weapons transferred from the West by rail.

Stanislav Mitrakhovich, an expert at the National Energy Security Fund, stated this on the air of the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Indirectly, one can only estimate, because, of course, there is no reliable data. But indirect data is as follows: the metro works in Kyiv, and it works in Kharkov. It turns off periodically, then turns on again. This means that there is no catastrophic situation. If we want, if the Russian Federation wants the situation to change, it must change on the part of who is delivering these strikes,” the expert said.

“Well, stopping gas supplies could also play a role in terms of the operation of industrial enterprises and electricity. This is also an important thing related to the isolation of the theater of war, when intensive transportation by rail with the help of electric locomotives does not stop. Conversion to diesel locomotives has its own problems, its own supplies.

This is exactly what the Americans showed us in 91 and 93 with Iraq, and in 99 with regard to Serbia. And so Ukraine inherited from the Soviet Union a very powerful energy system, especially after deindustrialization, less electricity is needed. And when some objects fail, others can be connected.

As far as I understand, open distribution devices, 750-kilowatt stations, which make it possible to transfer energy from nuclear plants to end users, have been affected only to a minor extent,” Mitrakhovich said.
