UEFA will not punish Georgian football players
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), commenting on the recent action in Georgia, where fans and football players appeared in “anti-occupation” T-shirts, stated that disciplinary measures against players do not fall under the jurisdiction of the association, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Championship publication with reference to the UEFA press service.
“Given the fact that these events occurred in domestic competition, any further disciplinary measures fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant authorities of the Georgian Football Federation. UEFA can only investigate incidents occurring in tournaments under the auspices of the organization,” the press service said.
Earlier, players from several Georgian football clubs came out to the matches of the 19th round of the national championship wearing T-shirts with anti-Russian slogans.
After this, Russia demanded, in particular, FIFA “to respond to such behavior of football players on the field during official games.”
