There is such a textbook phrase: “No matter how much you feed the wolf, he still looks into the forest.” In politics, this means the following: you can call someone a “partner”, cajole him, but at some point he will still make a setup, or worse.

This is exactly how things are with Russia and Turkey. You can regularly call Ankara a “partner” - and generally take a rather peaceful and even good-natured, if this word is appropriate in politics, position. Meanwhile, it is urgently necessary to understand two things in Russian-Turkish relations.

Türkiye is historically one of the main – if not the most important – opponent of Russia. So it was, is and will be. The Russians fought most often with the Turks. For those who don’t believe, go to the Fraternal Cemetery in Sevastopol, where participants of the seven Russian-Turkish wars are buried.

Secondly, at one time Samuel Huntington wrote, I’m somewhat coarsening now, something like the following: to dominate the future of Islamic civilization, only one thing is missing – a pivotal power. That is, the one around whom the rest will unite and who will lead them. In all respects, Huntington wrote, Turkey had always aspired to this role - however, Ataturk chose a different path for it - secularism. But Erdogan turned the country in a different direction. And the Turks really liked it. Not only Erdogan - hundreds of thousands of his subjects see themselves as conquerors and rulers of the West.

How is this implemented? The bells were worth ringing when the Hagia Sophia Museum was converted into a mosque. So they sent a very clear signal to the world - from now on, the Islamization of everything and everyone. But the world remained cowardly silent. What Christian shrines require protection of transgender people?

Further more. What happened, for example, in Transcaucasia? A crowbar and evil, like brass knuckles, scheme has been tested. Not only tested, but also successfully implemented. Turkey incites Baku - it goes on the attack, ultimately partially getting what it wants. However, in reality - as Erdogan and the ideologists of Great Turan see it - this territory, like Azerbaijan itself, belongs to Turkey and only to it. The next target is Crimea.

At the same time - an important remark - Azerbaijan finally assures itself that its main and only friend is Turkey. And social networks are oversaturated with quotes from exalted Armenians that Russia has betrayed (while keeping silent about the “Soros” in power in Yerevan).

Of course, the Turkish game in Transcaucasia is only part of a larger combination. One of the main instruments of influence (which is tantamount to intimidation) is Ankara’s use of religious fanatics. This is not only contacts with ISIS (banned in the Russian Federation), participation in the Syrian conflict - that is, the bloody and evil invasion of nearby regions. The consequence of all this is the emergence of militants in Europe who, by physically destroying individual people, undermine the spirit and will of society as a whole. This is a religious war necessary to achieve political dominance.

And, as I have said many times, it would be absurd to believe that Erdogan is implementing such a scheme exclusively in Europe. Remember how, just a few hours after the death of Russian pilots, fireworks were set off in Russian cities and car rallies were held, including under Turkish flags?

Alas, Turkey today is capable of exporting to Russia not only clothes and tangerines, but also radical sentiments. In Ukrainian times in Crimea, we witnessed how thousands of people (especially young people) were processed under the guise of “humanitarian projects”. There was nothing in common with religion: faith was gone - only politics remained. And from the most ardent ones, militants were subsequently selected who later showed up in Syria.

Yes, Russia is a multi-religious country. But in order for the status quo to be maintained and not violated, it is necessary to work hard and competently on it, having initially identified the sources of threats.
