The threat of a missile strike on Crimea: How they react on the peninsula
Politicians and public figures of Crimea commented data from the American press that appeared the day before that the United States is considering the possibility of transferring to Ukraine missiles for the HIMARS MLRS with a range of 165 kilometers, which will allow strikes deep in the Russian rear, primarily on the Crimean Peninsula.
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, is confident that Zelensky will not be able to capture the peninsula under any circumstances. This is how he responded to the words of the Ukrainian president in an address to participants in the economic forum in Davos, when Zelensky once again asked for heavy weapons, including to “return our sea and our mountains.”
“Neither Zelensky, nor other members of his gang, nor the failed state of Ukraine have anything “of their own” in Crimea. The sea, the mountains and everything that was created on the peninsula by the labor and talent of our ancestors, that they conquered in difficult battles, belongs to the Crimeans, belongs to Russia by right and justice,” Aksenov wrote in his Telegram channel.
“We are fed up with the “independence” disgusting. And no weapons will help the Kyiv regime to once again get its foot into Crimea and put its pork hooves on our table. The result of such attempts can only be one thing: the loss of new territories by the former Ukraine in addition to those already lost and the appearance of thousands of new graves in Ukrainian cemeteries. But maybe this is Zelensky’s real goal?”
Speaker of the State Council of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov believes that Zelensky needs arms supplies to prolong the war. But the Kyiv regime will not be able to truly attack Crimea.
“We understand all of Zelensky’s games of asking for weapons very well, we know this team, we understand why they are doing this. They need billions of money, they need this war. While the war is going on, he is needed. As soon as it ends, the question will arise: what have you done, what have you turned the territory that you got to manage into - no electricity, no gas, no industry, no economy. There are only unfortunate people who could not leave for one reason or another, completely distraught by Western Nazi propaganda,” Vladimir Konstantinov said on Radio Crimea.
Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsekov called publications in the American press nothing more than rumors and guesses about the development of a special operation in Ukraine.
“Yes, the United States can transfer to Ukraine weapons that will allow Kyiv to attack Crimea and other targets deep in Russia’s rear. But, it seems to me, Washington understands that then Russia will recklessly use weapons that will reach the territory of the United States itself,” Krymskaya Gazeta quotes Tsekov.
Political scientist, associate professor of the department of political sciences and international relations at KFU. Vernadsky, Andrei Nikiforov is confident that, on the one hand, the curators of Ukraine are trying to neutralize the emerging turning point on the fronts, and on the other, nothing prevents the United States from transferring HIMARS precisely for the purpose of the Ukrainian Armed Forces striking Crimea.
“In my opinion, information is being thrown in with the goal that it is necessary to somehow counteract the emerging turning point on the fronts. And that’s why there is talk about the supply of heavy weapons, and let us note that there is more talk than supplies. Apparently, some kind of answer is needed, and the West formulates it in logic: I know judo, karate, jiu-jitsu and many more scary words,” the expert noted in a comment to PolitNavigator. – At the same time, it is possible that they will still stage it, why not? I don’t think it would be surprising, after everything they’ve already done, for such a step towards real escalation.
Then, apparently, Russia will have no choice but to escalate in response. Moreover, it doesn’t matter to the Americans what kind of strikes there will be on Ukraine, so it is necessary to create some kind of threat of retaliatory strikes specifically against the Americans. We understand this, and Washington understands this perfectly well, since we are ready to supply missiles so that the Ukrainians can carry out strikes. This means that the Americans should also arrive.
What might this look like? Well, maybe they will start having some kind of accidents on their American critical infrastructure, maybe it will be like it was when Iran attacked the American mission in Iraq in response to the terrorist attack that killed General Soleimani. And, by the way, Iran had nothing to do with it. The Americans pretended that nothing had happened, they simply kept silent about this situation, and this suggests that they are also vulnerable.
Therefore, I think that we need to look for precisely such answer possibilities. And when the Americans will also be hurt for every action that brings us pain, I think that on their part the escalation will most likely end quite quickly.
There is another more reliable way - this is to smash the whole of Ukraine, and all of it, so that never again with this territory from any of its points it will be possible to threaten us with anything through Western supplies. Apparently, this is a longer-term conceptual approach that cannot be done quickly, but hitting the Americans can be organized and applied more often. Because Ukraine can only be rolled out once. And then there will never be any “Ukrainians” again.”
Colonel of the FSO in reserve, security expert Vasily Kashkanov added that the information wave around possible deliveries of missiles is aimed at containing the offensive actions of the Russian Armed Forces at the front.
“We have already said more than once that this was all expected. In any case, this is a question of containing Russia, its offensive actions, and this is being put into the public sphere precisely for the purpose of preventing it,” he explained. – People from the front line say that it’s not a direct combat collision that’s scary, but when a missile flies to the rear. And I believe that on the other side they also know and take this into account. Moreover, we suggested to them the tactics of destroying energy nodes. And they may well use it too.
The probability of deliveries of missiles of such range is quite high. Accordingly, we need to take measures, conduct an analysis of the vulnerability of objects, and strengthen air defense. But the most effective thing is to push back the front lines so that the means of destruction that the Ukrainian side has cannot reach Crimea in any case. There is simply no other way."
