This opinion was expressed in a comment to Kommersant by the director of the Russia-East-West Center for Strategic Studies, Vladimir Sotnikov.
“I would not rush to talk about a radical turn in Turkish politics based on one quote,” the expert noted. – It is possible that the most important part in Erdogan’s statement was the passage about the fact that Turkey does not lay claim to Syrian territory. And attacks against Bashar al-Assad are nothing more than menacing rhetoric, which, by the way, has been heard from the Turkish leader many times before. Erdogan has spoken more than once about the need to overthrow Assad. What matters here is whether words are followed by deeds. So far, let me remind you, during the Euphrates Shield operation, Turkish troops did not engage in battles with Syrian government forces.”
