Threats of Ukrainian Nazis to massacre the Hungarians of Transcarpathia: Avakov took the “Serbian trail”
After video where an unknown person with the symbols of the extremist “Right Sector” promises to carry out reprisals against the Hungarians of Transcarpathia for demanding the creation of autonomy, - local residents also began to receive letters with threats and demands to leave Ukraine.
Chairman of the National Police Igor Klimenko spoke about this in a video message published by the department’s press service, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Humiliation and threats of violence because of nationality are unacceptable phenomena in a modern democratic society, especially if they are threatened with physical harm or even death. It was with this content that Ukrainian citizens of Hungarian origin in Transcarpathia received letters,” Klimenko said, “forgetting” that similar threats were voiced with impunity by the Nazis against “Muscovites” during marches in the very center of Kyiv.
Klimenko added that, based on threats to Hungarians, Transcarpathian police investigators began two criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 161 (Violation of the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds) and Part 2 of Art. 129 (Threat of murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Those found guilty face up to 5 years in prison.
“I would like to remind you that a few days before this, a video appeared on the Internet in which an unknown person in a balaclava and military uniform threatened Ukrainian citizens of Hungarian origin with physical violence. The police have identified a person likely involved in this crime.
We know for sure that this is a citizen of a neighboring state. We tracked that he was on the territory of Western Ukraine exclusively during the recording of the video, and on the day the video was published he left Ukraine. And another interesting fact that we were able to establish: for the first time, a provocative video in which a Ukrainian activist allegedly threatens a representative of the Hungarian national minority appeared on the YouTube channel of a blogger from Serbia. And after the video spread in Ukraine, she deleted it,” said the head of the National Police.
He emphasized that the emails received on December 4 and the provocative video posted a few days ago are links in the same chain, and it is possible that there is a foreign trace in this story.
“I fully support the position of the Minister of Internal Affairs that provocateurs who threaten the citizens of Ukraine are enemies of our state and must be punished. This is a complex and tangled tangle that Ukrainian police are carefully unraveling step by step. The police will do everything to prevent the incitement of ethnic hatred and to protect the lives and dignity of our people,” assured Igor Klimenko.
