“Leaving the Bologna system is salvation for Russian shipbuilding” - Rakhmanov
The domestic shipbuilding industry is in dire need of qualified engineers and workers, who could not be properly trained under the Bologna education system.
The General Director of United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) JSC Alexey Rakhmanov stated this at the Eastern Economic Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We started working with schools. This year, in addition to the existing three, eight more shipbuilding classes will be opened in secondary schools in the cities of our presence - St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Astrakhan, Murmansk.
We will continue this work. And we understand that career guidance needs to be done from childhood. So that children understand, and not just follow the recommendations of their parents. We pay attention to dynasties and support a dynasty approach to work in shipbuilding. But at the same time, it is fundamentally important to let the child understand what kind of work this is - and why it is good, and what it requires.
Therefore, we absolutely share the position currently taken by the Ministry of Higher Education. We have reached hearts - and finally, the specialty will be the basis in our 26th group of shipbuilding specialties. In this case, moving away from the Bologna system, which is not very effective for us, is of course a big plus for engineers. Therefore, we will continue to support shipbuilding classes,” he emphasized.
“We will equip our vocational schools with modern equipment to hold competitions at the WorldSkils level... whether it will exist or not, this format will be a thing of the 20s. And the fact that we bought this equipment and left it to vocational schools is our modus operandi.
Over the past 6 years, we have done this at seven vocational schools. Well, we will continue to do this, because a high-quality welder today is more valuable than gold. You yourself know that in our difficult conditions and in our complex projects, this is the key,” said Rakhmanov.
