Ukraine mediocrely failed its presidency of the UN Security Council: Trump refused Poroshenko an audience
Petro Poroshenko mediocrely missed the opportunity to convey the “Ukrainian position on Crimea” during Kyiv’s month-long chairmanship of the UN Security Council. This was stated by the ex-head of the SBU Valentin Nalyvaichenko.

“This was not done by the president of the country, who did not use the opportunity to speak from the high rostrum of the world to present the Ukrainian position, the Ukrainian plan, the Ukrainian demands.
As an example, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic used his opportunity, who, as part of a briefing on Kosovo, presented the Serbian position, the Serbian plan and Serbian demands regarding Kosovo on February 27 of this year at the UN Security Council.
As the founder of the UN as a non-permanent member and presiding over the UN Security Council, as a victim of aggression, Ukraine should have taken a proactive position in February and demonstrated the highest presence: despite the fact that our draft statements and resolutions are blocked by Russia, we must shout to the whole world about about your misfortune, about your pain, about your demands. And this should have been done by the head of state.
Unfortunately, the Ukrainian president was not in New York in February, just as he was not at the anti-corruption forum in London. The scene of action was taken by empty pathos,” Nalyvaichenko laments.
“Ill-wishers say the president did not go to New York because he did not receive confirmation for a widely announced meeting with US President Donald Trump. I don’t want to believe in this, although if this is true, then the possibility of addressing the whole world on issues that are most important for Ukraine should weigh in the balance,” says the former head of the SBU.
