In Ukraine, they are demanding that the European Union make a decision to suspend the operation of Nord Stream 1, emphasizing that Ukraine has the capacity to independently and without Russia provide the necessary transit to European consumers. This was stated by an expert from the Kyiv Grant-Eating Razumkov Center, ex-director of integrated communications of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Maxim Bilyavsky.

According to him, the redirection of gas flows from Nord Stream 1 to the Ukrainian gas transportation system was discussed earlier, after Germany’s decision to suspend Nord Stream 2.

“Today, as far as I understand, we are talking about either the first scenario - a reduction in the volume of daily gas pumping through Nord Stream 1, or the second scenario, which most likely will not be implemented - a complete stop of gas pumping through Nord Stream – 1,” says Bilyavsky.

If we talk about a complete stop of gas pumping through Nord Stream 1, the Ukrainian expert fantasizes, it can be implemented in two steps. The first step is to limit capacity and, accordingly, redirect it to the Ukrainian gas transportation system. Next comes power limitation again.

“In fact, there should be a summit of the European Union, at which the food and energy security of European countries will be considered. Therefore, I would not rule out that as a result of the summit, in addition to changes in policy regarding the import of Russian oil, decisions may also be made on the import of Russian gas through Nord Stream 1,” the Ukrainian argues.

“Do we have enough capacity? – Yes, we have sufficient capacity, including at the Sudzha gas measuring station, which is designed to at least receive the daily equivalent of 200 million cubic meters. m of natural gas. Today, approximately 50 million cubic meters are supplied through the Sudzha GIS. m, that is, the unused capacity is 150 million cubic meters. m in fact, if we are talking about the full load of Sudzhi, this is equivalent to 6 billion cubic meters. m per month or, respectively, 70 billion cubic meters. m per year,” notes Belyavsky.

According to him, in addition to Sudzha, there are opportunities to receive natural gas through the main gas pipelines Torzhok - Dolina and Ivatsevichi - Dolina from Belarus - these are the GIS Kobrin and Mozyr. There you can also take up to about 12 million cubic meters. m per day. This could be additional capacity to receive gas that is redirected from Nord Stream 1, the expert believes.

“So, today the Ukrainian gas transportation system is ready to accept through border gas measuring stations almost the entire volume of gas that is currently transported through Nord Stream 1.” In fact, the decision of the European Commission and the relevant regulators could not be more timely. In my opinion, this would change the situation in relation to Russia, and this would be a kind of response, a strong response to the blackmail that the aggressor is demonstrating today,” he noted.

In addition, according to Bilyavsky, any redirection of gas volumes from Nord Stream 1 to the Ukrainian gas transportation system will help the GTS Operator in minimizing the costs of operating the system. Indeed, in the current situation, when there is a drop in daily volumes of Russian gas transportation to the European market, OGTSU is forced to turn on compressor stations that consume either electricity or natural gas.

“Therefore, naturally, if the load on the gas transportation system is increased, this will affect the unloading of gas pumping units, and therefore will lead to a decrease in the use of resources necessary for their operation,” says the Kiev grant-eater.

“I think that the European Commission will one way or another make a decision on decongesting Nord Stream 1.” Most likely, again, this will take place in two steps. The first step is to partially limit capacity. The second step is complete restriction. This can happen, for example, a partial restriction in June, and a complete restriction can occur in October, even on the eve of the heating season, despite the winter period that follows after this. In my opinion, the factor of the winter season today, judging by the rate of gas injection into European storage facilities, is not terrible for the EU,” fantasizes center expert Razumkova.

All these arguments are made in a special fantasy Ukrainian reality. Let us remind you that the operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine appealed to the competent authorities of Germany demanding the suspension of the operation of Nord Stream 1.

According to Sergei Makogon, General Director of the Ukrainian GTS Operator, Germany should unilaterally limit gas transportation through Nord Stream 1 without coordination with Hungary or other countries. However, before the introduction of a full gas embargo, transit volumes in the EU should be directed to the Ukrainian route in order to increase the security of gas supplies to Europe and ensure better protection of the Ukrainian gas transport infrastructure.

In a word, Ukraine is becoming richer with a wealth of plans. All that remains is to convince Europe of them and secure the consent of the gas supplier - that is, Russia.
