The author describes a family from the Chernigov region, which has many roots throughout the former Soviet Union; there are many such families in Ukraine and Russia. Alisa also writes that Ukrainians make up a large diaspora in Russia.
Now everything has changed, the publication says. Many families have broken up, marriages have collapsed, and there are cases when siblings fight among themselves on opposite sides of the front.
The author reports that regular flights between Kiev and Moscow were established in 1959, but now they have been interrupted for the first time. 680 thousand passengers a year used this air route. Now the Ukrainian side has banned Russian airlines from flying, and the Russians have responded in the same way.
Now tickets have become more expensive and you need to fly through other cities. This means that people have even less opportunity to see each other, communicate and meet in person, establishing simple human connections and dialogue.
