Ukraine launched a kamikaze against Donetsk – how will the DPR respond?
Today’s attack on Donetsk, where three explosive devices were detonated in the city center as a result of a drone drop, is a new threat to the capital with the DPR, which will require additional measures from the defenders of the republic.
Russian military expert Igor Korotchenko told PolitNavigator about this.
“This is a new threat. Ukraine uses single-use drones, the so-called kamikaze drones, as well as drones that drop a load that detonates when it collides with an object or the ground.
This is a new type of terrorist war waged by Ukraine. It's hard to fight this, but it's possible. It is necessary to use electronic jamming means that deprive the drone of the ability to fly, carry out combat missions and disable it or forcefully land it.
The task, of course, is very difficult because it is a small target, highly maneuverable, flying at an extremely low altitude. But she also has weaknesses. And here - only electronic warfare means, because traditional air defense systems and shelling from large-caliber machine guns are often ineffective.
Plus, intelligence of the militias must actively work in order to understand where Ukraine is launching from, who is in control, in order to somehow neutralize such capabilities on the part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” Korotchenko said.
The commander of the special detachment of the DPR Ministry of Emergency Situations “Legion”, Colonel Sergei Zavdoveev, recalled that today’s air attack on Donetsk occurred several days after the escalation on the front line.
“The apparatus of the People’s Council, the head of the Republic, is located there, perhaps it has something to do with this. The aggravation itself began on the front line, and now terrorist attacks are all before the elections (in Ukraine, - ed.). Before this there was silence. Our last terrorist attack was when Alexander Vladimirovich Zakharchenko was blown up, after that there was a lull, both on the front line and here. And now everything has been activated for the elections,” the officer explained.
