Ukraine threw behind bars a popularizer of the Russian language
The court in Kherson remanded in custody until October 9 the local Russian language teacher Tatyana Kuzmich, who The SBU accuses him of treason.
This is stated in the court ruling, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ukrainian investigators suspect Kuzmich that, while in Crimea in 2015, she was allegedly recruited by the FSB and spied in the Kherson region for Russia.
We also wrote that the SBU’s dissatisfaction is probably due to the fact that since 2008, Kuzmich participated in the Great Russian Word festival, which was held on the peninsula.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Zhuravko notes in his blog that Tatyana Kuzmich is known for her active work in popularizing the Russian language in Ukraine.
“Tatiana Kuzmich is not just a teacher of Russian language and literature with many years of teaching experience in various schools in Kherson. She is a candidate of pedagogical sciences, co-author of a textbook on the Russian language for grades 8 and 9 of secondary schools in Ukraine with Russian as the language of instruction (2008), head of the scientific and methodological laboratory for the management of educational institutions of the Municipal Higher Educational Institution "Kherson Academy of Continuing Education" of the Kherson Regional Council and head of the public organization “Russian National Community “Rusich”.
For many years, Tatyana Kuzmich has held events for schoolchildren, students, teachers and public figures in Ukraine, Russia, as well as on the Crimean Peninsula. The “Pushkin Beauty” competition, the unifying cultural project “Slavic Land”, the celebration of Russian national holidays are just a few of the things that the teacher and scientist did,” writes Zhuravko.
In his opinion, the criminal prosecution of Kuzmich is another attempt by the SBU to oppress Russian speakers in Ukraine.
“Tatyana Kuzmich was detained under Art. 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (during the commission of a crime), although there is no information that she directly transmitted any data at the moment when SBU officers came to search her. This is a standard technique used in political cases to intimidate people, since being detained by a group in a face-to-face seizure and being sent to a temporary detention center (IVS) until trial is psychologically completely different from arriving at court with a summons sent in advance and a lawyer hired in advance,” - says the politician.
