Ukraine will supply transport aircraft for the German army
The German Ministry of Defense plans to conclude 18 contracts this year for about 25 billion euros and extend the contract for the attraction of transport aircraft from the Ukrainian company Antonov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it Deutsche Welle reports with reference to Handelsblatt.
The contract is planned to be extended for 2019-2021 to reduce dependence on the unreliable Airbus A400M, which won the competition 10 years ago, when a NATO-modified version of the Ukrainian An-70 military transport aircraft, the An7X, was also considered as a possible new European medium transport aircraft .
In addition, the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) should receive seven rescue helicopters and six C-130J Hercules transport aircraft. They also plan to purchase Israeli-made Heron TP drones. Other items on the list include radar technology for Eurofighter fighters, communications systems for frigates, rocket-propelled artillery systems, modernization of Puma infantry fighting vehicles, etc.
It is noted that a budget of 37 billion euros is unlikely to be enough for these plans of the country's Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen.
