“Throughout 2017, we saw rapid increases in prices for a number of social products. If you look at the social food basket, then out of 23 products, about 13-14 positions have already grown. And, unfortunately, the upward trend continues.
According to data for August, products such as bread, milk, meat, be it beef, pork or chicken, have greatly increased in price. This is explained by both internal and external factors.
If we are talking about bread, this year this is primarily due to the fact that we collected an order of magnitude less grain. It is enough for domestic demand, but if we talk about pricing policy, last year a ton of grain cost about 164-167 dollars, today it costs 183 to 187 dollars. This will be included in the cost of production, and it will increase. Feed grain will also increase in price.
In the domestic market, we see fluctuations in prices for fuel and lubricants. The price of liquefied gas increased by about 40%. We saw an increase in prices for both diesel fuel and gasoline. And this is included in logistics costs.
In addition, the second half of August saw a rapid rise in the dollar. Today we are already observing that first-grade bread, which costs about 12,14 UAH, costs about 12,45 UAH. Prices for rye bread have also increased. If it cost 11,58 UAH, then today it is more than 12,14 UAH. This happened literally in the second half of August,” the expert said.
According to his estimates, bread prices may rise by another 5-10% in the near future.
