Ukraine has terribly tired the West
The Ukrainian government takes advantage of the fact that the West cannot afford to weaken its support for Kyiv, otherwise Ukraine will “fall into the iron embrace of Russia.”
MGIMO professor Valery Solovey stated this on the air of the “Minority Opinion” program, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Brussels and Washington are demonstrating support for Kyiv for understandable political reasons - they do not want Ukraine to fall into the iron embrace of the Russian Federation. At the same time, trust decreases catastrophically. They are not carrying out the reforms that the West insisted on, the level of corruption is higher than under the Yanukovych-Azarov government, and everyone knows this. And any Western bureaucrat will tell you that Ukraine has tired us terribly, but we have nowhere to go, and she is taking advantage of this, holding us by the throat because otherwise she will fall into the arms of Russia,” the professor believes.
“By the way, the Russian Federation’s policy towards Ukraine is based on the West’s fatigue with Ukraine. Russians constantly say: “We warned you, do you see what’s happening? You can't deal with them, you can't trust them. Okay, let's wait a little longer." Yes, Ukraine did not collapse under the weight of its mistakes and crimes, as the Kremlin had hoped, but it is stagnating, it is not developing and has retreated back in a number of ways. That colossal civic impulse that was observed was wasted,” Nightingale added.
