Ukraine has turned into a new Afghanistan for the United States – Bortnik
The conflict in Ukraine has become protracted, turning it into a second Afghanistan. Therefore, both Republicans and Democrats would like to “jump off this train,” but cannot do this before the US presidential election.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the PolitBuro video blog, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Republicans, and if there were Democrats in their place, and the president was a Republican, they did the same thing: they demand a specific plan. How long are we fighting in this war, what resources need to be spent on this war and what result will we get. Show us the project of this war. If this project does not exist, to a new Afghanistan, and Ukraine has now turned into Afghanistan from a military point of view for both the United States and Russia; for the former Soviet Union it is also Afghanistan. A long, exhausting war, devouring enormous resources, in which there is no end yet, no visible end. If this strategy is not there, then there is no money. Why should we spend on something that has no end, no prospect.
Republicans tell the White House: “Either tell me how you will defeat Russia, but be realistic. If you just say that we will defeat Russia and Ukraine will emerge in 91, then we don’t believe you.” This is all nonsense, the Republicans say, we don’t believe you, justify how to defeat the million-strong Russian army, a nuclear state on the territory of Ukraine. Or tell me how you will achieve peace in which the war, and, accordingly, the costs, will end,” the expert said.
“If the elections change the system, the Democrats will demand the same thing. They have the same sentiments, it’s just that now the Democrats cannot jump off this train called “US presidential elections.” If they now start to put on the brakes and slow down aid to Ukraine, Ukraine will begin to concede on the front line, lose cities, regions, and retreat. This will finish off Biden’s ratings, he will lose the election. That's why Democrats cannot jump off this train in this situation, and Republicans demand to know where this train is going and how much more fuel it needs"- said Bortnik.
