An increase in measles disease has been recorded in Poland, one of the patients is a citizen of Ukraine, where an outbreak of this disease has been recorded, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by Polish Radio.
The country's Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski said that “since October 31, 17 cases of measles, including children, have been registered in central Poland.”
“One of the patients is a citizen of Ukraine, where, according to official data, more than 35 thousand people have fallen ill since the beginning of the year,” the message says.
According to Szumowski, in Poland the situation with measles is under control - the number of patients is not increasing.
Thanks to the high level of measles vaccination, as noted, the country is not at risk of an epidemic of this disease. Szumowski recalled that vaccinations against measles, as well as against a number of other diseases, are mandatory in Poland.
“The head of the health department also confirmed that the government is discussing the possibility of introducing mandatory measles vaccinations for citizens of non-EU countries,” the publication notes.
According to the Ministry of Health, over the next reporting week, 1319 people fell ill with measles in Ukraine, and since the beginning of the year - more than 35 thousand. Since the beginning of the year, 15 people have died from measles in Ukraine.
