Ukraine physically cannot close the border with Russia, - Chumak
Kyiv, June 05 (Navigator, Evgeny Andreev) – The problem of breakthroughs by pro-Russian armed groups on the eastern border of Ukraine is due to the fact that the State Border Service was created primarily as a police, not a military structure.

Viktor Chumak, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Combating Organized Crime and Corruption, stated this on Channel 5.
“When we talk about closing the border, we still cannot physically block it at every meter, every kilometer. Yes, most likely this can be done by appropriate military measures. There are a lot of bypass roads, and on each of them you can set up conditional motorcycle maneuver groups. This is no more than a hundred people with any equipment - armored personnel carriers, small artillery, who will be able to respond very quickly to the situation in the border area. If there is a breakthrough on one section of the border, they will move. It is generally impossible to place them close to each other, there are no resources for this, they will be located at a distance of 30-40 kilometers. Reconnaissance must work to prevent breakthroughs. Human intelligence that will work far from borders. Work with the local population, aerial reconnaissance. This will be the closing of the border. But this should have been done earlier,” the deputy, a former artilleryman, is confident.
He does not believe that the State Border Service is currently unable to cope with its functions:
“For 12 years, when Litvin (Nikolai - “Navigator”) headed it, quite a lot was done to make this border service a law enforcement police department, but not a military force. And when such a situation arose, without a doubt, the border service was not “tailored” for such activities. That’s all,” stated Viktor Chumak.
