Ukraine is ready to punish Europe for its support against Gazprom
Ukraine must lure “European partners” to its side, promising them a share in the gas transmission system operator being created in order to disrupt the construction of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
The head of Naftogaz, Andrey Kobolev, stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, at the recent negotiations on the transit of Russian gas, there was a part closed to Ukraine, where the Russians promised to share profits from Nord Stream with the Europeans.
“This issue was raised in a bilateral format, where the Ukrainian side was not present, but, as sources from the EC told me, among Gazprom’s arguments there is one interesting thesis: “Our project (that is, SP2) is not only purely commercial, but also completely pro-European, because that it has European partner companies. We are ready to share revenues from gas transportation WITH YOU.”
That is why it is very important to understand before voting for draft law 2239-1: maintaining the window for attracting a partner to the capital of the GTS operator is our weighty argument against SP2. We cannot lose the competition for European partners with Gazprom. Even at the declaration level. I really hope that they will hear us,” Kobolev said.
