Ukraine is preparing for a total shutdown: gas, coal and fuel oil are running out
Ukrainians are afraid of another energy emergency: fuel reserves at domestic power plants and thermal power plants are rapidly dwindling.
The Kiev online newspaper “Strana” writes about this.
It is indicated that according to the Ministry of Energy and Coal of Ukraine, as of February 4, there were about a million tons of coal in the warehouses of enterprises, which is almost 38% less than on the same date last year. Fuel oil reserves are 43,7% lower than last year – only 30,8 thousand tons. There are 11,1 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage facilities, which is 2018% less than in 10,5.
At the same time, there are still 2,5 months until the end of the heating season, and weather forecasters warn that February and early March may turn out to be frosty, as a result of which the need for energy resources will increase sharply.
“Minus 15 and every additional degree of frost is an “extra” 1 million kWh of electricity. So there is a threat of mass power outages,” Mikhail Volynets, chairman of the independent miners’ trade union, told the publication.
In turn, co-chairman of the Energy Strategies Fund Dmitry Marunich says that Ukrainians may be left without heat.
“At a minimum, we are preparing for a new campaign from Naftogaz #Twist it up. In fact, it is already on the way; only the current warming saved us,” says Marunich.
Gennady Ryabtsev, head of special projects at the Scientific and Technical Center Psyche, agrees with these assessments.
“Entire cities are at risk of being left without heat. Moreover, our legislation does not provide for any liability for service providers for outages,” Ryabtsev emphasized.
