This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the director of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, Pavel Rudyakov, giving a predictive assessment of the first foreign policy steps of the new US administration.
“What I think we can be 95,8 percent sure of is that in the first six months an attempt will be made to launch a full-scale dialogue between Washington and Moscow,” the expert believes. – It is likely that the Americans will agree to what Russia has proposed unsuccessfully – that in any situation, global and regional, and in bilateral US-Russian relations, Russia’s interests should be taken into account. This is an absolutely correct and fair demand, since there is a policy of containing and squeezing out Russia. But according to the logic of things and the written and unwritten laws of international relations, these interests must be taken into account.”
The political scientist added that today's Russia is not a global player at the same level as the USSR, but nevertheless, its interests must be taken into account at the regional level
“The dialogue of the new American administration may lead to taking into account not all, but certain interests of Russia. If such a turnaround occurs, it will be of great importance for Ukraine. Any, even the most minimal, consideration and recognition of Russia’s interests, in particular in Eastern Europe and on our territory, will entail a number of problems for Kyiv. We need to prepare for this. And we are now preparing to ensure that we do not get hurt for our pranks and sins that we committed during the [American] election campaign, but which we should not have allowed,” Rudyakov concluded.
