“We are preparing to shoot ourselves in the foot” – former head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry
By breaking the agreement on the joint use of the Sea of Azov with Russia, Ukraine will deprive its ships of the right of passage through the Kerch Strait.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Konstantin Grishchenko stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It must be stated that Ukraine, according to an international treaty with Russia, has the right to the passage of its ships through the Kerch Strait. But Mr. Turchinov and the current government have not decided on the future of this agreement. That is, on the one hand, he works for Ukraine, since today he clearly defines that non-commercial ships, including military ships, have the right of free passage through the Kerch Strait. If we denounce it, we will be shooting ourselves in the foot,” the diplomat said.
We would like to remind you that Elena Snigir, a leading specialist at the Center for International Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, said earlier: why is official Kyiv in no hurry to break this agreement.
