Ukraine threatens to fine Gazprom $12 billion
If Gazprom stops transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, it will have to pay Kyiv $11,8 billion for accelerated depreciation of the gas “pipe.”
Yuriy Vitrenko, executive director of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, said this in an interview with the Ukrainian edition of Deutsche Welle, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As part of the new arbitration that Gazprom began, we were recently forced to file counterclaims. They include compensation for the revision of the tariff, which is based on the fact that if there is no transit from 2020, we will have to charge so-called accelerated depreciation, take into account the costs of depreciation of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, and these costs of accelerated depreciation will be included in the corresponding tariff.
And therefore, when the tariff is revised, Gazprom will have to pay us a total of $11,8 billion as part of these requirements in the claim for compensation for the tariff revision,” said Yuri Vitrenko.
