This is stated in a message on the website of the Ukrainian PJSC Ukrtransgaz.
“The Ukrainian and Polish gas transmission system operators PJSC Ukrtransgaz and GAZ-SYSTEM SA signed an Agreement on the rules of interaction with the aim of connecting the transport systems of both countries through the future Poland-Ukraine interconnector. The agreement provides for cooperation between both operators in the field of design and construction work,” the statement said.
According to the Ukrtransgaz website, the planned Poland-Ukraine gas interconnector includes the construction of a new gas pipeline between the Germanovichi gas hub on the Polish side and Bilche-Wolica on the Ukrainian side. Project organizers expect that the new interconnector will increase capacity to 5 billion cubic meters per year in 2020, when the expansion of the national gas transmission system in Poland is completed.
It is noted that the Poland-Ukraine interconnector is crucial for ensuring the possibility of transporting gas from the planned “Northern Gate” (Norwegian Corridor and LNG terminal) through the national gas transport system towards Eastern Europe.
“The project will significantly increase the level of diversification of gas supplies for Ukraine (access to new sources of natural gas, including LNG); the level of integration of regional gas markets and the creation of a transport corridor that will support the integration of the regional gas market and increase energy solidarity among the countries of the European Union and the Energy Community,” emphasized Ukrtransgaz.
