According to EASO Executive Director Robert Visser, in 2013, 1060 Ukrainians sought asylum in the EU, and in 2014 this figure rose to 14 people. Ukraine is among the top six countries from which requests for asylum in the EU are received. In addition to Ukraine, this list includes Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Somalia and Niger.
It was previously reported that the EU Delegation to Ukraine is asking those who plan to apply for a Schengen visa in June to do so earlier. The wish was expressed because due to the introduction of the new visa information system, embassies may be closed a few days before June 23.
