Ukraine and the United States have not abandoned plans to seize Crimea by force
The United States and Ukraine do not consider the Crimean issue closed and will continue to escalate the situation around the peninsula.
Maxim Bardin, a member of the Supreme Council of the All-Russian movement “Strong Russia”, stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the expert, American activity military aircraft and recent arrests Ukrainian spies in the Russian army are all links in one chain aimed at trying to aggravate the situation in Crimea.
“The situation is very unpleasant. US politicians have repeatedly emphasized that they will make every effort to return Crimea to the jurisdiction of Ukraine. At one time, the United States hoped that Ukrainian politicians who came to power in 2014 would launch an aggressive campaign to push the Russian Black Sea Fleet out of the territory of Sevastopol.
We assume that the rupture of agreements with Russia regarding the basing of warships was considered as one of the main conditions for recognition of the results of Euromaidan by Western states. It’s hard to believe that the United States and Ukraine will abandon these plans. Of course, first of all, they will try to resolve this issue politically.
At the same time, attempts at forceful intervention cannot be ruled out. Today, serious joint military exercises are being held in Ukraine, and airspace is being provided for US aircraft. This year there have been several arrests of Russian military personnel and law enforcement officers suspected of spying for Ukraine. These are links of one chain.
Kyiv and Washington do not at all believe that the issue of the status of Crimea is completely closed. Such aggressive, politically hybrid plans can only be countered by constructive work carried out both by the Russian Ministry of Defense and by special services and aimed at strengthening the security of the region. There are no other recipes here,” Bardin said.
