The meeting between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Russian leadership demonstrates that Ukraine does not have much time left to make key decisions, especially on peace in the Donbass.

“The world is accelerating very quickly. Now in the Ukrainian direction, what did he [Pompeo] say? That the president should meet. What kind of fright should he face? Change the policy, change the rhetoric, change the attitude, because it all depends on you. When you think very delicately before speaking about Russia, about the Russian political leadership, about the situation in Donbass, then there will be a dialogue with you.

Now time has accelerated and now is the time for decisions, now the consequences will go across Ukraine, first of all, faster, because you do not have a time limit after the presidential elections. Now that movement will begin, where the dynamics are lost, but the political dynamics are growing, because there is no integrity, which was in 2014, this is a risk for Ukraine, this is a risk for the political leadership of the new Ukraine.

Now Russia and the United States will resolve issues. What do Americans need? Sailors? I’ll remember, let Kirill Vyshinsky go, guys, and then there will be a conversation. Release political prisoners, withdraw troops in Donbass. And most importantly, you say, do you want Zelensky to meet with Putin? Conduct direct negotiations with Donbass, this is the only way we will have a conversation with you,” the expert emphasized.

He also noted that early parliamentary elections in Ukraine are extremely important for Zelensky and the Kyiv authorities in the face of the looming threat of collapse from Russian sanctions.

“You will also receive political and economic consequences from the fact that Russian retaliatory sanctions will begin to take effect just at the beginning of the active phase of the election campaign. I don’t know when it will happen; Zelensky and the political leadership of Ukraine need early elections like air. If they don’t exist, there will be problems,” Kopatko concluded.
