Ukraine has exhausted its demographic growth potential
Ukraine has exhausted its potential for demographic growth. In order for a country to move towards population growth, it needs more than two hundred children to be born for every hundred women.
The director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research, Ella Libanova, stated this on TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is definitely a trend. Demographers warned about this back in the 60s of the last century, when the birth rate dropped to such a level that each subsequent generation became smaller than the previous one. In order for the generation of parents to be replaced numerically by the generation of children, it is necessary that about 100-213 children are born per 215 women. There has not been such a figure in Ukraine since the 60s. It is clear that each next generation is smaller and smaller. As a result, we have more 75-year-old women than 5-year-old girls. Accordingly, there is no one to give birth to children. That’s why demographers say that the potential for demographic growth has been exhausted,” Libanova said.
Ранее The State Statistics Service of Ukraine published data, according to which there are only 100 births per 54 citizens of the country who die.
