Ukrainian economic expert Vsevolod Stepanyuk stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“But the USSR methodology was developed during the Great Patriotic War,” the expert emphasized. - That is, it was a wartime basket. Well, don’t forget about the quality of goods, which was much higher then. Yes, Soviet shoes were ugly, but they were actually worn for five years. Nowadays shoes are rarely worn beyond the season. The quality of the cars is the same. On the streets you can still see “Victory” and “ZIM” cars from the 60s. Then the manufacturer fought not with advertising for the buyer, but with quality.”
“Therefore, it is impossible to apply that methodology, even after changing the basket,” Stepaniuk concluded. – I did my calculations. The minimum survival basket for a person who goes to work is more than five thousand hryvnia.”
Let us remind you that in Ukraine the official cost of living is 1200 hryvnia (about 50 dollars).
