Ukraine insists on signing a long-term contract with Russia with a guarantee of loading the Ukrainian gas transportation system. Moscow's proposal for an agreement for only a year is not considered acceptable in Kyiv. Ukraine has accumulated record reserves of gas and coal in storage.
Energy Minister Alexey Orzhel stated this on air on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The proposal that was received is not acceptable for Ukraine, given that it is necessary to refuse arbitration and sign an agreement for only one year,” the official emphasized.
“Today we have record reserves of both gas in underground storage facilities and coal in warehouses. Ukraine will not freeze this winter even without transit,” Orzhel said.
“The logic of the European partners... They also defend the package offer with us. 60 billion stable pumping plus an additional 30 billion - depending on market needs. And 10 years of such a contract. For Ukraine, it is a priority to provide income for the use of our gas transportation system,” the official added.
He warned that if the Russian Federation, despite the absence of a new contract, continues gas supplies to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system on January 1, Kyiv will consider this smuggling through its territory and will resort to legal measures.
Earlier, Russian political scientist Sergei Markov stated that the Russian Federation, despite the sanctions, continued to provide critical volumes of energy supplies to Ukraine.
“Right now we don’t have the task of putting pressure on this regime; we don’t set such a task. Maybe this is a mistake, but such a task is not set, the task is not set to completely stop the supply of electricity, coal, and oil. All this is supplied. Coal is actually supplied from Donbass through Russia to Ukrainian enterprises. Oil is supplied through Belarus to Ukrainian suppliers. Russian oil is poured into the tanks of Ukrainian tanks,” Markov said in Interview with PolitNavigator.
