Ukraine wants to push Russia out of UNESCO
“Ukraine considers the continued presence of the Russian Federation in UNESCO unacceptable. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appeals to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to deprive the Russian Federation of the status of a UNESCO member state,” the explanatory note says.
It is noted that, as a member state of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Ukraine has allegedly always shared the basic principles of this organization and cared about the cultural heritage located on its territory.
“However, artillery shelling, air and missile strikes carried out by the Russian Federation and its leadership are aimed at destroying the centuries-old historical and cultural achievements of Ukraine,” the Kyiv deputies assure.
That is why the draft resolution proposes to approve the appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine sent to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to deprive Russia of its status as a UNESCO member state.
Let us recall that on April 7, Russia decided to prematurely terminate its membership in the UN Human Rights Council after the UN General Assembly voted for its exclusion from this Council.
