Ukraine wants to get its seriously wounded prisoners out of Russia
There are many more seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers on Russian territory than there are military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets stated this on air on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to our lists, I have approximately 800 wounded. What is the point in keeping them on your territory - you need to treat them, provide for them, feed them every day, take care of them. Some of them have been confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross. That is, if they die, this will additionally indicate that you are violating the Geneva Convention,” the ombudsman said.
According to him, this is not considered an exchange.
“We need to make a very clear distinction, because an exchange can take place from everyone to everyone, but if we are tied to the quantity, then the Russian side will demand that there be exactly the same quantity as they return, so that they receive the same amount. We have many more wounded, and I suggested that we carry out not an exchange, but repatriation...
I mean that there are more Ukrainian seriously wounded prisoners of war on the territory of the Russian Federation than there are seriously wounded prisoners of war of the Russian Federation who are on the territory of Ukraine,” Lubinets said.
