The first kilometer has been covered in the construction of the Beskydy tunnel.
“On the border of the Lviv and Transcarpathian regions on the Beskid-Skotarskoe section, work continues on the construction of a new double-track Beskid railway tunnel. The builders have already passed the one kilometer mark. This is more than half the length of the tunnel that will connect Transcarpathia with the Lviv region,” the Lviv regional state administration said in a statement.
The length of the new tunnel will be 1,765 kilometers, width – 10,5 meters, height – 8,5 meters. It is being built at a distance of 30 meters from the existing one. The engineering structure will lie at a depth of 180 meters from the surface of the Beskydy range of the Carpathian Mountains.
The new tunnel will be equipped with modern working and emergency lighting devices, ventilation, video surveillance, control sensors for determining the level of harmful gases, as well as constant monitoring of the internal condition, fire safety equipment and an anti-corrosion protection system.
For its construction, the European Investment Bank allocated a loan of 55 million euros to Ukraine. The tunnel will connect Ukraine and the EU.
