Ukraine cultivates impunity: Radicals are encouraged to commit crimes in Donbass

Ukrainian radicals who commit crimes on the territory of Donbass are not punished. Alexander Protsenko, head of the “Special Status” sociological research center, stated this today during a teleconference with Moscow.

“We know of a case where in November 2017, the highest specialized court in Kyiv, “under public pressure,” overturned the sentence of a Ukrainian soldier who was sentenced to 13 years for shooting a civilian near Mariupol at a checkpoint. The Ukrainian government cultivates impunity and encourages radicals to commit crimes,” Protsenko said.

He emphasized that Ukraine is creating a “new legal reality” that allows criminals to fearlessly admit to the atrocities they have committed, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The radicals who were involved in the murders at Euromaidan can calmly, looking into the camera, like Ivan Bubenchik, say exactly how many policemen he killed. He went unpunished because in 2015 a law came into force that legalized these crimes,” Protsenko said.

He recalled that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine refused to implement a number of provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights, affecting the rights of people in Donbass, and the Ukrainian amnesty law of 2016 was aimed exclusively at ATO participants.
