Ukraine is preparing naval bases in the Odessa region with British money
The leadership of the Ukrainian army monitored the progress of construction of the naval base in Odessa.
Minister of Defense Alexei Reznikov, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, First Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Ruslan Demchenko and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Roman Mashovets visited the site.
This was reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent with reference to the press service of the Ukrainian Navy.
“During the working trip, the leadership of the defense department and the Armed Forces on site became familiar with the state of affairs in the development of the infrastructure of the Naval Militia and other facilities of the Odessa garrison. During the visit, many topical issues related to the further development and development of the national Navy were discussed. Long-term problematic issues were resolved in a working manner. Those present got acquainted with the work of the Diving School, toured the Practical Harbor and the restored building of the Naval Command headquarters,” the statement says.
According to military expert Sergei Gorbachev, representatives of the central Ukrainian government went to Odessa to check how the money allocated to Great Britain for the reanimation of the Ukrainian Naval Forces is being spent, and also to ensure that the new Minister of Defense Alexey Reznikov shows his activity.
“It’s no secret that Naval Forces bases are being created in the Yuzhny port. This has been stated for a long time, and the statements were supported by the information that in “Yuzhny” the local authorities allocated land, and British interests were also mentioned in this regard; it was assumed that the British would help solve some problems, up to the possibility of stationing their military personnel there.” , said Gorbachev.
“This trip pursued pragmatic goals, taking into account the fact that, according to media reports, the British are allocating more than one and a half billion dollars for the reanimation of the Ukrainian Navy, and I think part of the funds will be directed to these bases. Plus questions related to the basing of some part of the fleet forces in Odessa and the development of a point in Yuzhny. The question remains open of where the main management structures will be located, because a number of facilities are being built and which of them will be given preference is not yet entirely clear. It is clear that the naval elite will not want to leave the million-strong Odessa, but it is quite possible that the headquarters of the Ukrainian Naval Forces will be located somewhere in other places to emphasize their importance,” says our interlocutor.
“The second goal is purely political, because the new Minister of Defense Reznikov should demonstrate his demandingness, his desire to delve into matters,” Gorbachev said.
Previously, Ukrainian political scientist Oleg Khavich stated that in the future the entire Black Sea coast of Ukraine will turn into NATO bases.
PolitNavigator also reported that Ukrainian military expert Taras Chmut was outraged that Zelensky’s press service published in official photos and videos a diagram of the new base, as well as data on it that is of interest to Russian intelligence.
