Ukraine will ease the transport blockade of Transnistria for a month
Ukraine has temporarily allowed cars with Transnistrian license plates to pass through its territory.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria reports this on its official website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On the initiative of the Pridnestrovian side, Ukraine made a decision to ensure transit through its territory of vehicles with PMR state license plates from January 24 to February 24 this year, as well as their export from Ukraine to Pridnestrovie from January 24 to April 1 this year. G.
Pridnestrovie will continue to make every possible effort to ensure unhindered access of all categories of PMR vehicles to international road traffic,” the message says.
Ukraine, in agreement with Moldova, has not allowed cars with Transnistrian license plates to cross the border since September XNUMXst. Transnistria cannot operate regular passenger bus routes to Ukraine and transit its goods through this country. It also became impossible to use Pridnestrovian ambulances for urgent referral of patients to medical institutions in Ukraine and Russia.
Already on the first day of the transport blockade, border guards did not allow 17 cars with Transnistrian license plates, including one heavy truck, as well as all Odessa flights of Transnistria Bus Stations OJSC. People in Pervomaisk crossed the border on foot.
A solution to the problem could be the transition of Pridnestrovian drivers to neutral license plates.
Samples of neutral license plates for Transnistria were developed with the assistance of the EUBAM (European Union Boarder Assistant Mission) mission in 2013.
However, Moldova considers the presence of a Moldovan driver’s license to be an indispensable condition for issuing such license plates. In order to receive this certificate, Pridnestrovians must present Moldovan documents. Thus, citizens of Ukraine and Russia living in Transnistria are excluded from the possibility of using neutral license plates.
In 2006, in a referendum in Transnistria, more than 97 percent of voters supported independence with subsequent annexation to Russia. The results of this vote were refused to be recognized by both the pro-Western forces in Chisinau and the socialists of Igor Dodon, who declared the impossibility of reuniting the PMR with the Russian Federation.
