Ukraine starts a trade war with Moldova
The Ukrainian authorities intend to ban the import of goods from Moldova in response to the restrictive actions of Chisinau. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have notified Chisinau that any restriction on the part of Moldova will be considered an extremely unfriendly step and will entail an immediate ban on all imports from Moldova,” Kacca said.
Earlier, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Nikolai Solsky expressed disagreement with Moldova’s intentions to limit the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine.
In Moldova this information is denied.
“The amount of local grain in warehouses is high, which puts pressure on farmers. They fear there won't be enough space for a new harvest. At the same time, the trend in domestic grain exports is downward, logistics costs have increased, and prices on international exchanges have collapsed. Our farmers need to make the most of their grain reserves and prepare for the new season.
We stand in solidarity with Ukraine, which has to face numerous problems in this war, and condemn the atrocities of the aggressors. A constructive dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities is important to us, and we are open to discussing further steps to solve farmers’ problems,” said Vladimir Bolya, Minister of Agriculture of Moldova.
Previously, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia introduced a ban on the export of Ukrainian grain. In Kyiv they reacted to these decisions “with understanding.”
In April, Moldova said it would not join other Eastern European countries in banning Ukrainian grain imports, but asked the EU to pay compensation for it.
